imagine aspire achieve
The Maynard School is a dynamic, supportive community committed to excellence and providing learning opportunities which inspire and challenge.
We offer a world class curriculum which reflects internationalism, celebrates diversity and embraces new technologies. We are forward looking whilst cherishing the traditions of our rich history.
The Maynard School has been an important part of Exeter’s educational landscape since 1658. Although the school is proud of its historic tradition, it has always been resolutely forward-looking and has long been recognised as one of the country's leading day schools. Founded in the mid 17th Century the Maynard School is the third oldest girls’ school in the country. Over 350 years the school has produced a wide range of students who have gone on to achieve success in all areas of life. Our high-calibre staff work to ensure that all our students imagine infinite possibilities, aspire to be successful, and achieve highly. We ensure that students develop into confident, articulate young women, well-equipped to succeed in a rapidly changing world.
As a selective school we have high academic standards and an enviable record in public examinations and university entrance, but there is more to education than simply academic success. Within our warm and friendly environment girls have the confidence to be sociable and relaxed and, at the same time, show the determination to give of their best and embrace challenges in their academic programme and in a whole range of other activities. At the Maynard we encourage every student to make the most of the opportunities on offer, to develop a love of learning and to be socially responsible and compassionate towards all members of the school community.
Girls join the Maynard from age 7 upwards and come to us from a wide range of schools, from both the independent and maintained sectors. Two of the school’s major strengths are spotting potential in candidates for entry and bringing out the best in every student whatever her educational background.
Approximately one-third of our pupils come from the Exeter area, with the remaining girls taking advantage of the excellent school transport links to the city, travelling from across Devon and from parts of Cornwall, Somerset and Dorset. With approximately 100 girls in the Junior Department and 350 in the Senior School and Sixth Form, we are small enough for every girl to receive individual attention, but large enough to be able to offer a wide range of inspirational and challenging opportunities. We encourage visitors at any time; you will be assured of a warm and friendly welcome.
See The Maynard for yourself!
If you would like to have a taste of The Maynard before you visit, please take a few minutes to watch our new school film and see what our students, staff and parents have to say about the school.
Please re-visit the website regularly, as we are also planning to upload some additional short films looking at the Junior School, Senior School and Sixth Form in a bit more detail.
