Darwin Day

darwin day photoOn Thursday 25th June all of U3 and L4 collaborated in a cross-curricular day based on the life and work of Charles Darwin, to celebrate the 200th Anniversary of his birth. The girls, along with a group of new students who will be joining the Maynard next term, worked in groups to improvise scenes from the life of Darwin based on a short outline. After a day’s hard work, they produced a play called ‘A Voyage Around Charles Darwin.’ Their audience (the junior department, teachers and parents) were amazed at the standard of performance.

ANASTASIA DEBUTS AT THE FESTIVAL HALL!

anastasia festival hallAnastasia Bruce-Jones, U3N, was lucky enough to play twice at the South Bank Centre in London recently, at the British Suzuki Institute Concerts. The Exeter Suzuki Group was chosen to open the concert at the Purcell Rooms on the Saturday and then on Sunday Anastasia played in the Royal Festival Hall with others of her level in the main concert.

She also did well at the Devon Performing Arts Festival this year by winning all five of her music classes (piano, violin, violin ensemble, composition-and-performance and singing duet with Naomi Martin) and in all cases she achieved the highest mark given by each of the adjudicators for their sections (either outright or jointly), with two Honours and an average of 89 marks over the five classes. Her haul of awards included the Donald White Memorial Trophy for the joint highest mark in any violin class and the Most Promising-Composer Performer Trophy (for the second year running).
