130 girls, including 9 Maynard Sixth Formers gathered at Badminton School in Bristol to take part in a challenge organised by Musikscool and the Girls School Association to create and produce a five track CD in as little as four hours.
The girls are striving to raise funds for Whizz Kidz, a charity started by Mike Dixon which depends entirely on support from donations, and is approaching its 20th anniversary. The aim is to help finance mobility equipment for disabled children hoping to give them greater independence.
The girls are helping to finance this by partaking in a challenge to produce and market a CD about a positive change in the aim of helping at least one of the sixteen children in the South West who are currently on the waiting list for Whizz Kidz support. This CD was composed and recorded by the girls (including a track by some of our team); the cover was designed and funds were raised.
Regional fundraiser, Ashley Westfield, said “Thanks for the support for the day. We hope we can change the life of one young wheelchair user in the South West”.

Following the highly successful Celebration of Art Exhibition and 6th Form Art Competition in 2008, the Maynard School is delighted to announce two further Art Competitions for 2010; one competition for all 6th Form students in the area and a second competition for students in Years 10 and 11. The highly acclaimed artist Alan Cotton will again be judging the Exhibition. In 2008 the prize winners included students from Colyton Grammar and Blundell’s schools.
On the afternoon of November 10th ten 6th form students played host to a group of 15 people they had met through their voluntary work at the Lodge Residential Home and Age Concern. The students recited poetry, sang and played a variety of musical pieces including one of the first public performances by our 6th form house band Quantum. Both participants and audience had a good time and over tea and cakes one of the 6th formers who is taking History A level was fascinated to hear how one gentleman had fought in the Second World War and then gone on to be involved in the Cold war in both Berlin and Vienna.
