Tuesday 15th December was an evening of celebration for Maynard staff, students and their families at our annual Prize Giving ceremony at Exeter University’s Great Hall.
The Maynard’s excellent academic record is widely recognised with this year’s stunning GCSE and A-level results testament to the hard work and dedication of both staff and girls, but life is certainly not all about examination results and we are proud to celebrate the girls’ extra-curricular achievements, including successes at national level in sport and music and many girls benefiting from participation in community and charity work.
This year’s event had a slightly different feel to it as it was Headmistress Bee Hughes’ first Prize Giving. The format of the ceremony was centred on the School’s new mission statement – ‘Imagine, Aspire, Achieve’; with a world premiere of the new promotional film for the school shown to the audience.
Following the Prize Giving ceremony, a glamorous ‘Class of 2009’ drinks reception was held for our Upper Sixth Leavers, their parents and staff.
For the first time a photographer attended the ceremony to take photographs of the evening. You can view the photos here: www.tonycobley.com/maynard/
If you would like to purchase any of the photographs you can do so by contacting Tony Cobley directly via his website www.tonycobley.com or via the Maynard marketing department marketing@maynard.co.uk

The book, which would make a great Christmas present, has been produced and edited by Mrs Fanous, Head of Food and Nutrition, and includes a wide selection of recipes, all of which have been enthusiastically tried and tested by the students. The King was played by Mike Farley, one of Britain’s leading impersonators of Henry VIII, who specialises in running living history Tudor days for Key Stage 2 pupils that are historically accurate, but also funny and extremely entertaining! King Henry VIII was, naturally, in one of his magnificent costumes, and the teachers and students at the Junior School also donned Tudor attire for the day.
Steve Smerdon, Head of the Maynard Junior School said, ‘We are delighted to welcome King Henry VIII to the Junior School. It’s a wonderful opportunity for the girls to learn about the Tudors first-hand and really get an insight of what it would have been like to live under the reign of one of the country’s most memorable Kings.’
Heart FM are currently doing a tour of Exeter Schools to find out which primary school in Exeter & East Devon serves the best, most nutritious and tasty lunchtime meals. Matt and Dani were very impressed with the quality of the food on offer and both said they couldn’t remember their school dinners tasting quite as nice!
