Fundraising for ELF

Fundraising for ELFMaynard School students and staff pulled together to enter the Exeter Nightwalk as one big team to raise as much money as possible for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF). The Maynard was the only school to enter the Nightwalk. Many of the students and staff have been touched personally by Macmillan, and some were walking in memory of a loved one.

Headmistress, Bee Hughes said ‘At the Maynard we know how important it is that young people are given information about cancer so that they can cope if they are ever affected by it. The sponsorship money we raise through our Nightwalk team will make a real difference to the lives of local people living in our community.’

Head Girl Team show off the new Sixth Form kitchen

Head Girl Team show off the new Sixth Form kitchenThe Head Girl Team proudly showed off the brand new sixth form kitchen which is a new addition to the common room. The girls, inspired by the GSA Head Girls conference decided that the old style kitchen needed updating and initiated the project to create a more up to date kitchen which can be enjoyed by all the sixth formers. The area is now more of a social space for the girls to relax in. The project was very generously funded by the MPA and the school as well as some additional cash being raised by the girls busking!

Headmistress Bee Hughes said ‘I was delighted for the school to be able to contribute towards this new initiative thought up by the girls. The GSA Head Girls Conference is always an inspirational event to attend and it’s very satisfying to see the Head Girl Team come away from the day with lots of ideas on ways to improve sixth form life’.

Didgeridoo Workshop

Didgeridoo WorkshopChris Holland, from Wholeland visited the junior school to teach the girls how to play the didgeridoo! He told Aboriginal dreamtime and creation stories and played the didgeridoo for the girls. Each pupil was then given a didgeridoo and taught how to make some of the sounds. The girls went on to compile their own sounds and songs in small groups. They enjoyed the day!
