Amelia Newman (U5) invited her French friend Alice Bessette to the Maynard this week to improve her English and get a taste of English school life. Alice is the third generation of her family to visit England and stay with Amelia’s family. Alice’s Grandmother Madam Genevieve Rogers previously stayed with Amelia’s Grandmother, Alice’s Mother has stayed with Amelia’s Mother Tricia Newman and now Alice has come to Exeter to stay with Amelia. Pictured here we have a selection of the three generations of women.

Maynard School students and staff pulled together to enter the Exeter Nightwalk as one big team to raise as much money as possible for Exeter Leukaemia Fund (ELF). The Maynard was the only school to enter the Nightwalk. Many of the students and staff have been touched personally by Macmillan, and some were walking in memory of a loved one.
The Head Girl Team proudly showed off the brand new sixth form kitchen which is a new addition to the common room. The girls, inspired by the GSA Head Girls conference decided that the old style kitchen needed updating and initiated the project to create a more up to date kitchen which can be enjoyed by all the sixth formers. The area is now more of a social space for the girls to relax in. The project was very generously funded by the MPA and the school as well as some additional cash being raised by the girls busking!
Chris Holland, from Wholeland visited the junior school to teach the girls how to play the didgeridoo! He told Aboriginal dreamtime and creation stories and played the didgeridoo for the girls. Each pupil was then given a didgeridoo and taught how to make some of the sounds. The girls went on to compile their own sounds and songs in small groups. They enjoyed the day!
Congratulations are in order for our brand new sixth form scholars who have all demonstrated exceptional promise in the artistic, academic and sporting fields. Christabel Dodman-Lear, Helena Anthony, Pippa Rutter, Rachel Haigh, Melanie Etherton, Sophie Salisbury and Rebecca Brown are all looking forward to starting their sixth form studies at the Maynard next term and developing their talents along the way.
Maynard students demonstrated their excellent culinary skills to the general public in the Darts Farm food tent at the Exeter Food Festival on Sunday 11th April. The girls created delicious recipes from the new school cookbook ‘MMM Maynard’ for lucky passers by to sample.
The Really Wild Show Presenter and Naturalist Nick Baker will be joining the Junior School for lunch on Friday 30 April. He will then go on to lead the Junior Assembly and will be talking to the girls about how all of our contributions can make a difference to the sustainability of our environment.
Five Maynard Upper 3 pupils who are members of the Exe U12 Hockey Team won the Devon County Championships on Sunday 21 March. The girls competed on Saturday in the Regional Finals at Millfield School during which they won all their games against the teams from the other Western Counties. They therefore won – resoundingly – the Western Region Under 12s title! They now have the National Finals which will take place on May 16th in Nottingham. The girls who participated were:
