Retirement Presentation for Deputy Head Ann Boyce

A presentation was held for Deputy Head Teacher Ann Boyce who will retire from the Maynard at the end of term after 37 years of service.

Retirement Presentation for Deputy Head Ann BoyceThe presentation was part of a lunch hosted by the governors to mark Ann’s retirement and show their recognition of everything she has done for the school.

Life After School day

On their first day back after their AS exams the Lower 6th attended a “Life After School day” which consisted of a number of team building and problem solving activities. Seven trainers from outside school kindly gave up their time to help the girls with cv’s, job applications and interview practice. The girls found the day very useful as well as good fun and it gave them plenty to think about concerning their role in a group, body language and how to present themselves to the best advantage both on paper and in real life.

Deputy Head Ann Boyce to Retire After 35 Years

Ann BoyceMrs Ann Boyce, Deputy Head at The Maynard School, will be retiring at the end of this term after exceptional service to the Maynard for over 35 years.

Ann began her career in 1973, when she joined the Maynard as a young Biology teacher. She taught Biology to many generations of Maynardians. In 1988 she became Head of Sixth Form. Ann took on the role of Deputy Head just two years later in 1990, remaining in the post for twenty years. In this role she has overseen the creation of the timetable each year, made various curriculum changes guided newly qualified teachers and even inducted two headmistresses into their roles!

On her retirement Ann will continue to be an Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) Inspector, something she has undertaken for several years. She is also keen to travel and develop her talents in photography. Mrs Tricia Wilks, the current Head of Sixth Form at the Maynard, will take on the role of Deputy Head from September 2010. Her main responsibilities will be to oversee the Pastoral Care and Guidance system, support trainee teachers and coordinate the professional development of staff.

Ann has been an excellent professional in the many roles she has had here. She is an outstanding teacher and a knowledgeable and highly effective pastoral support co-ordinator. Ann has been a superb role model and inspiration to many trainee teachers who start their careers at the Maynard fully secure in the highly quality induction and training they receive under her guidance. Perhaps her most significant contribution over the years at the Maynard has been her commitment to and support of the young people. She has spent many hours working with the girls to help them through the challenges of growing up, and is highly respected.

Good luck Ann, you will be greatly missed!
