Pastoral Care
Pastoral Care is central to all that we plan for every girl to ensure that her school days are happy, secure and successful.
We aim to deal with any concerns sensitively and efficiently. We care about every girl within the school – not just because we want her to thrive and be able to take advantage of all that the school has to offer in its academic, sporting and creative life, but because we want her to be able to take her place in the wider world as a positive and confident individual with a concern for others. To this end we offer a carefully-monitored system of pastoral care as well as a specific programme of personal, social and health education.
We aim to foster:
- Worthwhile values to last throughout life
- Enjoyment of challenge regardless of outcome
- Success and perseverance
We place great emphasis on the importance of regular communication between School and parents. The Headmistress and staff are available for consultation whenever the need arises. Form tutors see their class each day and they and the Year Heads stay in regular contact with parents. We warmly encourage parents to call in or send a note to discuss any difficulties or concerns. Girls and parents can arrange to talk to our visiting school counsellor who is available regularly.
Peer Support Scheme
The Maynard School has developed a Peer Support Scheme, whereby girls are actively encouraged to discuss any problems with an older pupil who has been specially trained. The aim of the programme is to tackle any difficulties at an early stage and to build self-confidence and a sense of responsibility for others. All staff at the Maynard have a fundamental commitment to the well-being of each girl in our care.
