Oxbridge
Success

The Maynard School Upper Sixth formers are celebrating four offers to Oxford and Cambridge this year, all in the sciences, a particularly impressive achievement for an all girls school, in such a competitive domain.

The AQA Baccalaureate – Coming soon to the Maynard

The Maynard is introducing the AQA Baccalaureate from September 2010. Available to any student in the Sixth Form studying at least three A-levels, the AQA Bacc is a complete curriculum programme, adding value to core A-level subjects through broader study, the Extended Project Qualification and enrichment activities.

My time at the Maynard has been wonderful - I do not think I could have asked for a better start to my education - and I feel confident and well prepared for the next stage in my life

“The Maynard has given me some of the happiest times of my life, and the biggest opportunities”

One of the Maynard Sixth Form’s key strengths is the wide variety of opportunities on offer which equip our students to succeed in a rapidly-changing world. With around 110 Sixth Formers, we are large enough to cater for a full range of well-regarded A level subjects and allow a free choice among the courses of study on offer. At the same time we retain the family atmosphere, individual attention and nurturing support that are such important features of the Maynard education.

The Sixth Form programme is designed to help our students develop the new skills needed to cope successfully with work at A level and then at university. They have greater autonomy and more space to organise their own studies, interests and activities. They are encouraged to balance their academic work with the large and exciting range of extra-curricular activities and we are proud of the positive impact the Sixth Formers have on the rest of the school through running clubs, mentoring and taking whole school assemblies.

Great emphasis is given to individual pastoral care and academic guidance to help our students achieve academic excellence and personal maturity. This seems to be an excellent formula, as we have a superb track record in examination results and university entrance, with all our girls last year continuing onto the university course of their choice. All students are encouraged to aspire to and then reach their highest level of academic achievement.

We welcome new students and the new ideas and fresh viewpoints they bring into our Sixth Form. A wide range of scholarships is available for both our existing students and those new to our Sixth Form and there is also a bursary programme. If you are considering your options for Sixth Form study, you would be very welcome to come and spend a day with us to see if the Maynard would be the place to help you achieve your aims for the future.
