English as an Additional Language

All multilingual students who have a first language other than English are able to receive English as an Additional Language (EAL) support to help them flourish.

Our expert staff are able to provide extra EAL support tailored to the needs of each multilingual student so that they can fully thrive at The Maynard. This extra help is invaluable, not only to bolster students’ academic progress but also to boost confidence and help them to feel thoroughly integrated into the school community.

All multilingual students can be assessed to receive one hour of EAL teaching per week; extra lessons will be provided at an additional cost if recommended.

Meet Mrs Boillet, EAL Teacher and Co-ordinator

Mrs Tessa Boillet is our English as an Additional Language teacher and co-ordinator, and provides bespoke support to the students that she sees. Based on a student’s assessed levels of spoken and written English and their reading and listening skills when they join us, EAL lessons are targeted at individual areas of need as well as covering a broad curriculum of British values and cultural understanding.
