Please help the school maintain high standards by ensuring that uniform is clean, in good repair, and is correct for your daughter’s age group. Students must come to school wearing the correct uniform.

Students in the Sixth Form are not required to wear uniform. This is to show our trust in them to dress appropriately as they set examples to the whole school community. As such, they are expected to maintain a smart standard of appearance. This includes hair, makeup, and jewellery.

The following are NOT permitted:

Low-cut or overly exposing tops
Short skirts or shorts
Bare midriffs
Ripped jeans or sports clothing.

Please ensure sensible footwear which does not include flip-flops.

Appearance will be monitored to ensure standards are maintained.

There are occasions when a more formal dress code is appropriate at school events, for visits out of school, Open Mornings and for interviews. Sixth Formers are informed when a change in the dress code is required.

PE Kit

All Sixth Formers are required to wear Maynard-branded tops for PE. Everything else can be any brand of clothing so long as it is black or navy.

• Baselayer Top (optional) – Navy
• Leggings (optional) – Navy or black
• Tracksuit Bottoms/Shorts/Skort (optional) – Any plain navy or black

Extra information for Pre-Prep to Senior School

Hair

Hair should not be dyed and hair longer than shoulder length should be tied back at all times. Only navy, bottle green, black or black watch tartan hair bands may be worn (no scarves, lace, sparkly or other substitutes). Slides, clips, etc., must be black, navy or dark brown. They must be plain in design.

Footwear/hosiery

Shoes should give all-round support (ballet-style shoes are not acceptable), be of non-platform sole type, with heels measured under the sole of no more than 2.5cm. In summer they should not be open-toed or of sling-back heel type. The essentials are:

• shoe (not boot, trainer, etc.)
• low heel (measured under the sole of no more than 2.5cm)
• sufficient support by not being cut too low along the instep
• proper grip at the heel, shoes must fit firmly
• black leather shoes with matching laces; no canvas shoes
• no pumps, trainers or brands, e.g. Vans
• navy tights/long socks should be worn/ navy short socks are permitted in the summer term
• no white socks
• no torn hosiery

Non-acceptable shoes

No canvas shoes, no pumps, no trainers and no boots.

Jewellery

Jewellery Is NOT permitted to be worn with the exception of a watch, and only one pair of small plain gold or silver studs for pierced ears.

Other than the above, no other visible body piercing is permitted, for example, nose studs. If parents are considering having their daughter’s ears pierced, please do this in the summer holidays to allow the piercing to become settled.

Parents should write to the Head to request permission if they wish their daughter to wear a religious symbol (e.g. a cross). Such symbols must be worn under the uniform, and must be removed, and handed to a member of the PE staff, before PE lessons and sports activities.

Any excess jewellery will be confiscated by a member of staff and kept in the School Office, where it can be collected once School has finished for the day.

Makeup and nail varnish

No make up or nail varnish is permitted to be worn at school.

Adaptations to uniform

Cultural or religious adaptions to the uniform should be sought by request of the Head.
