Clubs & Activities

Junior School students take part in a number of cross-curricular days throughout the academic year as well as an outdoor education programme in each year group (including residential trips to Dartmoor and Somerset). They are also encouraged to join in with a wide range of extra-curricular clubs and activities both here at school and after hours.

Our girls participate in many team sports, including netball, hockey, rounders and basketball, but we also foster individual pursuits such as tennis, gymnastics and dance with the hope of encouraging exercise for health as much as for competition. The girls also have the chance to take part in public speaking, fundraising, art, cookery, drama or book clubs, amongst many others. You are as likely to find them climbing on the moors or canoeing down the Exe as reading a book in the library!

We particularly value the role played by the Sixth Formers who volunteer to run clubs and activities, as well as being mentors for the younger students. They are wonderful role models and provide aspiration and inspiration for the girls.

The motivation and self-reliance fostered in the Junior School stays with each girl throughout her school days!

Creativity flourishes at The Maynard, with a wide range of artistic extracurricular activities to try. Budding performers will thrive in our Speech and Drama Club, while those at home with all things crafty are right at home in the Creation Station Art Club. Wherever her imagination takes her, your daughter will be spoiled for choice!

Eco Club joins Junior and Senior students with a passion for the planet to help make our school even more wonderful and green. Past activities have included making bug hotels, planting flower beds, sharing eco-friendly habits with peers and meeting with staff to discuss how we can become more sustainable on a school-wide level!

At The Maynard, happiness and wellbeing are just as important as academic success. Alongside working hard and embracing all the opportunities of school life, our students can also unwind, laugh, and connect with friends across different year groups. Some love fresh air and stretching their legs at Dog Walking Club (with the added bonus of spending time with adorable pup Gracie!), while others enjoy a brain teaser and friendly competition at the Board Games and Puzzles Club. And for extra busy days, Chat and Chill Club is a lovely calm space to take a pause from the hustle and bustle with friends!
