WOW! What a day! Our inaugural Designer Day was an absolute triumph, as we welcomed our own Year 6 girls and special guests from schools across Devon for a fabulous day of fashion, creativity and engineering!
First up, fashion with a twist! Armed with nothing more than newspaper, the girls worked in teams to design and create the most spectacular dresses. The imagination, ingenuity and sheer creativity on display were quite extraordinary. Who knew newspaper could look so fabulous?!
Next, it was time to swap the catwalk for the concert stage as our budding structural engineers took on the challenge of designing and building architectural models of music stadiums fit for their favourite artists and festivals! From ambitious designs to impressive feats of engineering, the results were simply phenomenal!
And what better way to finish than with our very own Great Designer Exhibition, at which parents and guardians joined us to admire the girls’ masterpieces. Cue some VERY proud families, plenty of admiring gasps and, of course, lots of delicious cake!
A HUGE thank you to our incredible Head of Fashion & Textiles, Mrs Finnegan, and her wonderful team of Year 9 helpers, who were utterly superb and the perfect hosts throughout the morning. And enormous thanks to the University of Exeter graduates and engineers from Input National, Torquay Council and Exact Structures, whose expertise and enthusiasm helped bring our engineering challenge to life.
Most of all, congratulations to every single girl who joined us. Your creativity, teamwork, imagination and talent absolutely blew us away!
Same time next year? We think so!
