STEM superstar Upper 3s (Year 7s) have just finished their latest STEM Club project – using the lens from a laser pointer, some MDF, perspex sheets, and nuts and bolts, they built stands which turn the cameras in their mobile phones into microscopes with magnification of nearly x 200! Here they are customising their stands with stickers of the photos they’ve taken!
STEM Club has been absolutely brilliant this year and has grown in popularity each term, with attendees getting stuck into great projects like soldering Christmas trees, experimenting with 3D printing, and creating scientific posters.
Some highlights: “I really enjoyed the soldering project as it’s so fun and satisfying to get the Christmas tree lighting up in a specific order,” and “My favourite was making these microscopes – you get to see details you would never be able to otherwise, and carry on experimenting with taking photos at home!”
Bonus: can you spot the tiny bug in the last photograph?
