Lower 4 (Year 8) recently headed to Dawlish on a Geography trip and put their thinking caps on to consider an important real-world problem, “What should we do to protect the railway line?”
They applied their learning to examine the dominant coastal processes along the coastline, including measuring longshore drift and looking at the erosional processes at Langstone cliff, as well as looking at current coastal management strategies used to ‘hold the line’. Highlighting the vital practical implications of their observations, they’ll continue their problem-solving by debating whether we should continue to invest in coastal management or whether the train line should be moved north of Dartmoor.
Fascinating stuff that really matters in our local area – and the cherry on top was an ice cream in the sun at the end of the day!
