Teacher of English (Full Time) Required from September 2017

As an all-girls school nestled in the heart of Exeter, The Maynard has an enviable record of incredible results matched with a truly warm and friendly spirit. We provide a happy, secure and lively environment where every child’s individuality and unique talents can shine through.

We seek an outstanding, well-qualified and enthusiastic candidate to teach English up to A-Level. The successful candidate will be expected to teach through the age range and contribute to the exciting and busy extra-curricular life of the school. This post would be suitable for NQTs as well as more experienced teachers.

Why join our English Department?

We have an incredibly warm and dynamic staff with a huge passion for the teaching of English. The English department currently consists of five members of staff who believe in working collaboratively to ensure the very best outcomes for our students.

We prepare students for GCSE study of both English Language and English Literature. At A-Level the study of English Literature remains one of our most popular option choices. You will be joining a very successful English department; in 2016 71% of our students gained an A* or an A grade at GCSE and 100% of students achieved A-C grades at both GCSE and A-Level. We are a progressive department and strive to support our staff in their continued professional development. We believe in fostering positive relationships with our students and place huge value in inspiring their enjoyment and love of literature. We believe in creating educational opportunities outside of the classroom and ensure that each year our students enjoy an engaging mix of extra-curricular actives and trips. This culminates in our famous annual trip to Stratford to witness wonderful performances by the RSC and take part in a workshop series devised for us by the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a top independent girls’ day school with a long tradition of academic excellence and a commitment to developing each learner to their full potential.
