Art & Design

Specialist teaching of Fine Art and Photography enables students to gain skills and expertise in a broad range of media. The Photography module covers both black-and-white traditional film and darkroom work, and digital work. Digital manipulation techniques using Photoshop are explored, leading to the printing of final images.

Art & Design is taught in a dedicated Sixth Form studio with space for each pupil to work and store their portfolios. The A-level course encourages students to explore and develop their own ideas in greater depth and to develop their skills in using their choice of media.

To complement their learning in the art studios, A-level students enjoy a number of inspirational trips to help with the demands of their syllabus. Most recently they were thrilled to visit the Grayson Perry exhibition (entitled ‘The Vanity of Small Differences’) at the Victoria Art Gallery in Bath.

At the end of each year, we celebrate the fabulous creative achievements of the A-level students with an end of year Art Exhibition at school to which family and friends are invited.
