We have recently launched our brand new Forest School!
Outdoor learning has an extremely positive impact on children’s development, and being able to explore the great outdoors develops their social skills as well as their long term physical and emotional development.
At The Maynard we hold regular outdoor learning sessions, enabling our pupils to understand and embrace nature and the outdoors in a world that is increasingly consumed by digital technology.
All our Pre-Prep pupils take part in weekly Forest School lessons during the summer term as part of the curriculum. Our Forest School lessons are child-led and involve a lot of exploring and discovering nature, as well as activities such as helping to build a fire and using simple tools and natural materials for craft activities. We also take part in group stories, games and even have the opportunity to toast popcorn or marshmallows on the fire (or, in one recent session, to cook a rainbow trout with wild garlic)!
We hold a Forest School course for Pre-School children (aged 3 or 4 years old) every February/March. For more information or to book on to this course please email [email protected].
Junior and Senior School pupils will also have the opportunity for regular outdoor learning in this fantastic space.
