We have recently launched our brand new Forest School!
Outdoor learning has an extremely positive impact on children’s development, and being able to explore the great outdoors develops their social skills as well as their long term physical and emotional development.
At The Maynard we hold regular outdoor learning sessions, enabling our pupils to understand and embrace nature and the outdoors in a world that is increasingly consumed by digital technology. Our Forest School is run by Emma Cook, our Head of Pre-Prep and a trained Level 3 Forest School Leader, who will work with the children on developing their skills through a programme of learning.
Forest School lessons are child-led and involve a lot of exploring and discovering nature, as well as activities such as helping to build a fire and using simple tools and natural materials for craft activities. There is also group stories, games and even the opportunity to toast popcorn or marshmallows on the fire!
We launched our Forest School with a five-week course open to pre-school children which is taking place during March (for more information on this course please contact email@example.com). In the summer term, our Pre-Prep children will enjoy a Forest School session once a week as part of the curriculum, and our Junior and Senior School pupils will also have the opportunity for regular outdoor learning in this fantastic space.
