Lower 6 Geography trip to Snowdonia

The Lower 6 Geographers just got back from their fascinating residential trip to Snowdonia, packed full of learning and activities that will be invaluable for their A-levels.

As part of their work on rebranding, they started by heading to the depths of the Llechwedd slate mines to understand more about the economic change that has taken place in the last century.  A very wet afternoon in Llanberis followed where they investigated perceptions of place, balanced nicely with beautiful weather on Friday spent taking in Cwm Idwal and the iconic Nant Ffrancon valley. The class also undertook some carbon fieldwork, calculating carbon stores in woodland. Switching focus to urban regeneration, the final day was spent exploring Birmingham including the cultural  and creative quarter in Digbeth.

One of many highlights was sharing a range of Geography-themed cakes to complement everyone’s hard work, including a map of the world, a corrie and a valley glacier!
