Gold DofE expedition to Slovenia

Posted on July 15, 2025

Seven of our fearless Lower 6 (Year 12) students are returning today from their incredible Gold Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) qualifying expedition to the natural wonders of Slovenia!

The group finally embarked on their adventure last Tuesday after a year of training and working hard on their Gold DofE award, including a practice walk in the Brecon Beacons in May. They started with a bang with white-water rafting on the stunning emerald waters of the Soča River, then undertook a four-day trek through the Slovenian mountains, undeterred by the often cold and wet weather.

Despite a few navigational detours and an unfortunate incident involving a rucksack and the beautiful Soča Gorge, the group completed their expedition in good spirits, albeit with some sore feet. They were rewarded for their herculean efforts with a rest day visiting the breathtaking Lake Bled, journeying through a mountain pass that marks the meeting point of three countries, and crossing the gorge near where the First World War began.

We can’t wait to hear stories of their trip now that everyone is homeward bound! Congratulations to all for a successful expedition – you are inspirational!
