Busy sporting week culminates in multiple golds for Flo Evans

The Maynard has enjoyed yet another successful week on the sports pitch culminating with star gymnast, Flo Evans (Lower 4) scooping five golds at the Devon team and Individual Level 2 competition. In this, her last competition for 2016, not only did Flo’s team hit the top spot but she was also awarded gold for her individual performances on the beam, bars, floor and vault.

The Under 9 (Year 4) hockey team took part in their first ever tournament on Saturday 19 November, playing superbly in the cold and blustery conditions. They really rose to the occasion, drawing two of their matches (against Redmaids and Plymouth College) and only narrowly losing to Blundell’s and West Buckland. This was a magnificent effort given the play was shared equally between the class group throughout each match – sport being all-inclusive at The Maynard!

In Netball, our Under 19 team finished as Devon runners-up in the National Schools County Round on Tuesday 15 November 2016 and are through to the Regional finals in January. The Under 15 team followed up their superb victory against Millfield in the first round of the Independent Schools Netball Cup with yet another brilliant performance against Truro School, winning 55-39 on Wednesday 16 November 2016. Likewise, they also progress through to the next round of the tournament.

Elsewhere, 12 students took part in the Exeter Area Cross Country in Okehampton on Wednesday 16 November. Congratulations to Amelia Moody (Lower 5), Betsy Board (Upper 4), Kitty Guinness (Upper 4), Katie Harries (Upper 3) and Sophie Barker (Upper 3) who have all qualified to represent the Exeter area at the East Devon Schools competition in December.
