Fantastic news from our Carnegie Medal Shadowing Group! On Wednesday, a host of Lower 4 (Year 8 ) and Upper 4 (Year 9) readers travelled to Exmouth Community College for a Carnegie Celebration Event, championing their favourite of the shortlist – The Final Year, by Matt Goodfellow – with a persuasive presentation. Needless to say, they were over the moon to be voted 2nd of all groups competing!
Run by the Devon School Library Service, the event was a fabulous supplement to the reading the group have done so far. Another highlight was a talk from none other than the Shadowers’ Choice award winner for 2024, Tia Fisher, author of thought-provoking novel Crossing the Line, who was a huge inspiration to the whole group.
Very well done to everyone who participated, both as performers and writers! The winner of the Carnegie Medal, the Shadowers’ Choice award and the Maynard Choice will be announced next Thursday, so stay tuned.
