We welcomed Gifted and Talented students from St Leonard’s, Ide and Bickleigh Primary Schools for an afternoon of coding on Tuesday 29 November. Under the supervision of Mrs Burt, Head of Computing, together with a team of experts from PS-Stem, our guests learned about some key concepts of Computer Science using Kano.
Kano is a computer that clicks together like LEGO and uses simple steps that guide students through computing and coding. It completely demystifies technology in a human way, ‘empowering curious minds to create with technology.’ The students took part in a fun session of activities using Kano for art, music and games.
Equally, ‘Hour of Code Week’ runs from 5–11 December 2016 and, here at The Maynard School, we will be actively participating in this annual event. Girls will be encouraged to enhance their Coding and Programming skills within school, plus staff will be encouraged to have a go too!
