STEM superstars take on IET Faraday Challenge Day

A team of STEM superstar Lower 4 (Year 8) girls put their skills to the test today for the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET) Faraday Challenge Day, facing off against teams from other local schools to create a solution to a real-world problem.

We were very happy to host the challenge in the PAC, where eager students spent the day in a whirlwind of activity, including selecting their team roles, completing an engineering task, appropriately budgeting and acquiring materials they needed from the ‘shop’ led by staff, and producing a fabulous product which they then presented to the rest of the attendees. It was a fantastic opportunity to integrate Science, Design, Mathematics, Engineering and more.

To run the challenge, we were also joined by Cognition Learning, who helped the girls to continually improve their ideas, problem solve and think outside the box.

The final products generated were all excellent and showed wonderful innovation, with real potential to have a wider positive impact. A huge well done to everyone who took part!
