Learning about history from the people who lived it themselves is such a privilege, and so we were honoured to welcome a few of our friends and neighbours from The Lodge Care Home as guest speakers yesterday, who shared their experiences of the Blitz with Year 6 as part of the students’ History topic.
After this insightful and profound talk, a group wrote about the morning:
“The Blitz in Exeter was one of the city’s most tragic events and luckily enough today, 19/06/25, we got to meet four ladies from the care home across the road from our school. Although they all had different experiences that we can’t imagine, their struggles were the same. The ladies’ names are Pam, Kate, Val and Dilys. We asked them questions like, ‘What are nations?’ and ‘Did you have an Anderson or Morrison shelter?’
“We were so lucky to meet the last generation of people who really experienced the Blitz.”
Thank you so much to our guests from The Lodge for taking the time to visit us!
