Women into Medicine Conference inspires Lower 5

Posted on May 22, 2017

A group of 14 Lower 5 students enjoyed a very informative trip to Bristol on Friday 19 May 2017 for the Women in Medicine Conference, organised by Redmaids’ High School. Our students enjoyed the varied programme and they found the talks giving advice on medical school applications particularly helpful. All the students could choose to attend a number of workshops, depending upon their area of interest, presented by specialists in areas such as Neuroscience, General Practice, Nursing, Laparoscopic Surgery and the Ambulance Service. They even had the opportunity to try some practical skills, such as suturing and surgery stimulators.  “We came away from the conference feeling inspired by the women who spoke to us and with open minds to the wide array of medical careers available to us,” said Alyssa Gibbons.

The Maynard has a fine record of successful medicine applicants and we are proud to boast a huge number of medics amongst our alumnae. Inspiring today’s generation into such a varied and rewarding career remains hugely important to us and conferences such as these always play an important role in inspiring and enlightening our students.
