The Year 10 Girls into STEM event on Friday was an incredibly exciting opportunity for girls to have a taste of all things STEM and get a unique insight into Engineering and Technology careers!
Run jointly by The Maynard and The STEM Workshop Ltd, the day saw seven schools and 100 students (50 from local schools and 50 from The Maynard) compete in two hands-on engineering challenges with real practical applications: to design and build a robotic arm, then to innovate their arm to select and move goods using hydraulics and present their prototype to the judges.
We were also very grateful to welcome back a panel of amazing Old Maynardians with highly successful STEM careers to feature as STEM ambassadors. Hearing presentations about their work was an incredible eye-opener to the phenomenal range of STEM professions that young girls can choose to pursue!
After a day full of learning, problem-solving and exceptional teamwork, Cullompton Community College were crowned the winners, followed by two Maynard teams. Huge congratulations to the top three teams and thank you so much to all our wonderful guests and organisers for a fantastic day!
